Season Overview
April 1 | Student-Athlete Registration Begins
Interested students can register by invitation through the PitZone application.
Please contact us.
April-June | Preseason Activities
Pre-season activities such as meet and greets, skills clinics, and introductory
rides for potential student-athletes interested in learning more. We hold limited
events during this time to allow for the end of the school year. We are happy to
help new riders with acquiring and setting up their equipment (e.g. bike, pedals,
shoes, etc.).
July | Practices Begin
Let's ride! Season practices begin with an emphasis on skills, conditioning, and
team building. Deschutes Composite has 2x-3x weekly coach-led rides typically
at Phil's Trail complex or Shevlin Park. The Sisters Outlaws also practice twice
weekly, often starting at Village Green Park. Sometimes the teams venture out
together - further to Mt Bachelor, Cline Butte, Maston, Horse Ridge or one of
the race venues. For practices, coaches and riders often divide into smaller
groups based on skill/fitness levels and interest.
August - October | RACE Events
While practices continue through the season, racing begins in late August and runs through October. Riders race in divisions based on gender and grade. The race series includes 4 Southern League races and a State Championship that brings together riders from 20+ teams across all of Oregon.
Both the Deschutes Composite and Sisters Outlaws teams are part of NICA's Oregon Southern League. The League consists of 10 teams from Bend, Corvallis, Eugene, Klamath Falls, Oakridge/Westfir, Prineville, Rogue Valley, Sisters, South Coast, and the Umpqua Valley. Oregon’s Northern League has a similar number of teams.
And what about the RACEs? Well, they're Really Awesome Challenging Events.
Really Awesome Challenging Events
If you've never been to a NICA race, you should know they are first and foremost FUN. Yes, we take racing seriously, but you will have a good time surrounded by supportive fans cheering for each and every rider out there giving it their best.
Whether you choose to camp, AirBnB or show up the day of the race, DC MTB and Sisters Outlaws riders, friends and families always look forward to an awesome day. Look for us under the Deschutes Composite and Sisters Outlaws tents, where you'll find pre-race breakfast foods and the grill firing up around noon. On cooler days, gather around the fire pits. Oh, and don't forget your horns and cowbells to cheer on the team!
